Title Call for Proposals for Grant-in-Aid for Research Activity Start-up (KAKENHI) (deadline extended)
The Call for Proposals for Grant-in-Aid for Research Activity Start-up (KAKENHI) has started on March 2, 2020.
You are required to submit necessary documents to a person who in charge of KAKENHI in your faculty by the deadline when you want to apply.
 
【Preparations before applying】
  • Confirmation of Application Requirements
    The following are required to be eligible for applying to KAKENHI:
1. Applicant should belong to a research institution and whose duties include performing research activities within the institution.
2. Applicant should be a researcher active in research activities at his/her institution.
3. Applicant is not a student.
In addition, Applicants must satisfy one of the following two requirements, A) or B).
A) An individual who could not submit a KAKENHI proposal, because he/she obtained the eligibility for KAKENHI application only after the application deadline (November 7, 2019) to the research categories (*) of which the Call for Proposals is announced in September 2019 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
B) An individual who could not submit a KAKENHI proposal to the research categories(*) for which the call for proposals is announced in September 2019 by MEXT and JSPS, because he/she was on a leave of absence for childcare etc. in FY2019.
(*) Pertinent FY2020 Grants-in-Aids: “Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas,”
“Grant-in-Aid for Specially Promoted Research,” “Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research,”
“Grant-in-Aid for Challenging Research,” and “Early-Career Scientists.”
Please confirm your eligibility to your faculty.
 
  • Obligatory courses to take before applying
    Applicants are required to take the following on-line lectures for preventing research misconduct and misuse of research funds.
  • Education on Research Ethics (every three years)
Lecture to familiarize yourself with research ethics. Accessible from the CITI Japan website.(Pre-registration is required. Contact your department for registration).
  • Education on Compliance
      Lecture for understanding the rules on the use of research funding and countermeasure against fraud. Lecture materials are available after logging into the university’s web learning system.
 
  • Other Necessary Institutional Documents
    • Please confirm the deadline for Institutional documents. Each faculty may have its own deadline which could be earlier than the proposal deadline.
    • Please prepare as soon as possible because it is required to submit by paper style.
・Research Representative Contact Slip
・When the applicant is a Research Assistant, he/she needs to submit a Letter of Confirmation through the Project Leader.
